Fluent in Movement

Suffolk Coast Yoga Retreat at Toad Hall Lodges

Friday 11th - Monday 14th April 2025

“I would like to live my life like a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding.”

Fluent by John O’Donnohue

A weekend on the Suffolk coast to find fluency in our own unique movement language.

When we learn a new language, we start by translating words and sentences, piecing the individual parts together and practicing (and practicing some more) until we develop fluency - the ability to fully express ourselves through this language. How could we apply the same principle to our yoga practice. Spending time on the building blocks or composite parts, until eventually, with time, these parts quite naturally flow into a fluid and spontaneous language.

Expect to uncover your child-like curiosity to the nature of being human - through movement and meditation practices that offer inquiry into how we feel the world through our body.

While there will be moments of free exploration, these practices will be fully guided by myself. If you are newer to the practice, you are of course welcome to join and there will be options to suit all levels of experience. This weekend will offer all the tools you need to build a regular and curious self practice into your daily life.

This is a weekend with space to breathe. Where we gather to move collectively, as well as allow time to deeply rest and reconnect in nature.

Our retreat will be held at Toad Hall Lodges on the Suffolk Coast. The site features 5 cute nature cabins, each with their own hot power shower washroom and comfy memory foam beds. We will practice in their bespoke studio space, complete with all the props you could need. We’ll eat hearty homemade vegetarian communal meals in the outdoor kitchen and light the fire pits for a cosy evening. Restore in the onsite sauna and cold plunge pool (for the brave amongst you).

We’ll head to nearby Dunwich on Sunday night for a sunset Qigong practice on the beach and a pub dinner at the Ship Inn.

On the fringes of our site, you will find Hen Reedbeds Nature Reserve, a home for otters, water vole and wetland bird life. The location is less than one hour's walk from the historic town of Southwold and home of Adnams Brewery and lighthouse. We’re also a short drive from the atmospheric dune coastline and ruins of Dunwich and Minsmere Nature Reserve.

How our days will unfold …

… morning tea, smoothies and fruit

… a long, slow and somatically inspired morning yoga practice of breath, movement and stillness.

… communal hearty brunch buffet

… time to rest, explore or adventure in the surrounding areas

… slow evening Qigong and restorative practice.

… sauna and cold plunge

… gather for an evening feast and tea by the fire pits

Toad Hall Lodges is easily accessible by train and is a 2 hour journey from London Liverpool Street to Darsham Station, changing at Ipswich. We can arrange lifts to pick you up from the station. There’s also ample parking if you are travelling by car.

Surf & Yoga Retreat

Mawgan Porth, North Cornwall

Friday 3rd - Monday 6th October 2025

4 Places Remaining

Join me for 3 nights of yoga and surf in Mawgan Porth near Newquay, North Cornwall. Explore a daily somatic yoga practice and two surf coaching sessions with Rewilding Surf Retreats. This weekend is about good company, connection and developing new skills.

Who is this trip for? This retreat is for anyone that seeks a little adventure, without the organising. If you’ve always wanted to try surfing but don’t have the vehicle or equipment to plan a trip for yourself, this is for you.

Our yoga practices will always be guided by the breath first. Expect quiet moments to pause and reflect. This style of practice is slow, unrushed and unhurried with options to suit all levels of experience.

On this retreat we’ll be taking two surf coaching sessions with Ali of Rewilding Surf Retreats, where you’ll learn all the basics to be confident in the water. If you’ve never surfed before, we’ll cover everything you need to know to paddle out for the first time. If you’ve surfed before, we can accommodate different levels of experience and host an intermediate level coaching group.

Our surf coaching sessions will include:

- How to be safe in the water

- Pop-up technique

- Catching a wave

- Surfing in the white water

- Stance, turning technique

Boards, wetsuits and transport to and from the beach will be provided.

And what if there’s no waves? Newquay is in a prime surfing location, with a few different spots that work under various conditions. This means there’s usually a wave to be found somewhere. In the chance that the swell just isn’t working, we’ll head out to the coast for sea swims, coasteering or long walks to take in the views.

We will be sharing a modern 6 bedroom beach house featuring a large living room-come practice space with a glorious Atlantic view. Expect delicious homemade vegetarian feasts around the table and freshly made treats over the weekend. Speaking from experience, you will definitely not go hungry.

How our days will unfold …

… a quiet morning meditation, breath and awareness practice

… a healthy, energy filled breakfast and, crucially, tasty specialty coffee

… two hour surf coaching session at Watergate Bay

… a hearty post-surf lunch

… free time to enjoy the village, head out to the coast for a stroll or enjoy the quiet comfort at the house

… a long, slow afternoon somatic yoga practice exploring our themes for the weekend

… warm, filling communal evening feast or trip to the local pub on the final night
